WorkSource Youth Program on the Bay to Baker Trail |
|
The Northwest Workforce Development Council (NWDC) had its Youth Program participants working on the Bay to Baker (BTB) Trail on April 11, 2006. Charles Onion, Case Manager for the NWDC had the group working on the portion of the BTB near Cornell Creek, next to Glacier, WA. Participants cleared what was once railroad track bed for the Milwaukee Railroad. The Milwaukee Railroad had operated a train that would take Bellingham residents to Glacier to enjoy the outdoors and the hot springs. The Mount Baker Club has adopted the 7.5 miles of trail from Maple Falls to Glacier. The Bay to Baker trail will eventually run from Bellingham Bay at Little Squalicum Park to the Mount Baker Ski area. The Whatcom County Parks and Recreation Department is leading the effort to have this trail established. Groups that are interested in adopting a portion of the Bay to Baker trail should contact the Parks Department.
