This is much
more than just a running guide. You get a sampling
of trails from all over Western Washington. Choose
from lowland rail trails, rollercoaster foothills,
or steep mountain routes. For scenery, you can mix
and match rain forests, broad river valleys, high
alpine meadows, and open island vistas. You won’t
get bored.
Mike is impatient to hit the trail and you’ll
sense this in his guide. I like the format and
headings. At the top of the write-up, you’ll see
rating symbols for Pain & Gain and the quick
stats. Next, Warm-up will give you an idea why you
might enjoy this trail and what you can expect.
Approach gets you to the trailhead without wasting
time. Go sends you down the trail with detailed
directions. His write-ups are clear and concise.
He’s accurate in what he tells you. He ends every
trail description with info on Nearest Support.
Mike’s trail notes let you know where to catch
your breath and enjoy the view but he lets you
fill in the gaps and decide what kind of
experience you want. This works well for me and I
just as easily use this guide for hiking and
biking (where allowed). I always pack this book on
road trips. Even if I can’t find the time to do
the entire trail, I can usually get a taste for
the area that makes me impatient to come back
another day.
Whether exploring new trails or finding a new way
to experience familiar ones, I enjoy using this
book. Give it a run for the money and I think you
will too.
